【析形】形声字。古文字形从言，雔(chóu)声。雔像双隹（鸟）相对，兼有表意作用。
【释义】《说文》：“应也。”本义是应答。《诗·抑》：“無言不讎，無德不報。”朱熹集传：“讎，答也。”引申为报复。又可以引申为应酬、应验。应答要有双方，故引申为相符合、相匹配等义。“双方”可以指敌我关系，所以又引申为仇敌。又由此引申为仇恨。另外，雠可表示校对。[校讎]一人独校为校，二人对校为雠，谓考订书籍，纠正讹误。
“雠”也写作“讐”。仇恨、仇敌等意义也写作“仇”。“仇”古音读qiú，本义为同伴、配偶。
