【析形】形声字。古文字形从鱼，眔声。
【释义】《说文》：“鱼也。”本义是一种大鱼。李时珍《本草纲目·鳞四·鳡鱼》：“其性独行，故曰鳏。”古书中多指成年无妻或丧妻的男子。《孟子·梁惠王下》：“老而无妻曰鳏，老而无夫曰寡，老而无子曰独，幼而无父曰孤。”[鳏鱼渴凤]比喻独身的男子急于求得配偶。
